“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” (Matthew 25:40)
“Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:50)
Jesus certainly cares about kindness to the poor and needy in general, but that is not His greatest concern in this passage from Matthew 25.
His litmus test for identifying those who truly belong to Him and who are welcome in His kingdom is not merely “How did we treat anyone in need?”
It’s, “How well did you treat and care about your fellow Christians?”
