“It is not those who are well who need a doctor, but those who are sick.” (Matthew 9:12)
To religious and self-righteous people, Jesus was of no use. In their minds, they had things all figured out, and if anything, Jesus might do well to follow their example of piety.
But Jesus didn’t come to please the self-righteous. He came to save those who knew they weren’t righteous enough.
Jesus reserved His greatest power and most loving presence not for those who earned it by good behavior, but for those who needed it most.
He does the same today.
If you want more Jesus in your life, don’t try to earn a visit by impressing Him. Just ask Him to show up in the places you need Him the most.
