John the Baptist did not come “sharing his journey,” or asking questions, or telling stories. He came preaching a message of truth, that God was at work, His kingdom was near, and that people must turn away from their sinful self-centeredness and embrace God’s vision for the world.
Some people were enthralled by this message, while some were offended. Some chose to embrace the invitation, while others chose to reject it.
The same is true today.
The world still preaches its gospel of self-fulfillment, while God’s messengers still preach Jesus’ gospel of self-abandonment. The world says you and I are the point, while God’s Word says that He is the point and that our true and greatest fulfillment comes not from making much of ourselves, but from making much of Him.
There is preaching everywhere. The question is, which preaching will you listen to and follow?
