“You are a hinderance to me because you’re not thinking about God’s concerns but human concerns.” (Matthew 16:23b)
After Peter has a revelation from God, he quickly slips back into his old, human-centered ways of thinking.
This is natural. We naturally are concerned with food and clothing and shelter and income and relationships and significance because these are major components of our life.
But Jesus reminds us there is a deeper life that matters even more.
Our mindset is the lens through which we view everything in our life. A mind set on earthly concerns will diminish our understanding and appreciation of the things of God, and will lessen our passion for pursuing the will of God. A mind set on heavenly realities and purpose will cause our natural concerns to fade, diminish, and no longer drive our decisions.
The question is, which mindset will we choose right now?
Moment by moment, day by day, we get to choose which lens we will look through: the natural or the supernatural, the lens of heaven or the lens of earth. That decision will determine our direction.
So, choose wisely.
